If you’re looking for a new and unique way of getting your fitness fix, we’ve put together a list of the latest fitness class trends that you just have to try.

Hotpod Yoga

Hot Yoga has been gaining popularity for quite some time, but the introduction of yoga ‘pods’ has created a new craze on the yoga scene. Yoga sequences are performed in inflatable, cocoon-like pods which are heated to 37 degrees- designed to ‘super-charge’ the traditional yoga experience with the use of lighting and music to calm both the body and the mind! It’s fair to say that the juxtaposing worlds of boxing and ballet don’t often collide, but Aerobarre, a hybrid of the two, is a new way of combining ballet moves with boxing to improve agility and balance, giving your muscles a thorough and varied workout. The class is designed to test your coordination by incorporating fast-paced boxing moves with basic barre and ballet moves to sculpt long, lean muscles. If you’re intrigued, why not try ‘Boxerina’ with Paola’s BodyBarre, who teach at a variety of locations throughout London.

AntiGravity Yoga

AntiGravity Yoga was initially created by aerial performer Christopher Harrison, inspired by a combination of yoga, pilates and aerial acrobatics. This fun, full-body workout involves performing yoga positions whilst being suspended by hammocks attached to the ceiling. AntiGravity Yoga has been heralded as a major stress-buster as well as offering huge benefits to those with back issues. Back pain is said to be quickly relieved as the practise of hanging freely lengthens the spine, as well as increasing strength and flexibility. ‘It’s a real mind-body experience’, says Sandra Caniglia, an AntiGravity Yoga instructor. ‘It really does help in other areas of our lives, too’. AntiGravity Yoga classes are taught in nine Virgin Active clubs across the UK- find your nearest club here.

With so much emphasis on physical workouts in the fitness industry, it’s important to consider keeping your mental fitness in check, too. Meditation classes are becoming increasingly popular, as people seek new ways of relieving stress from their hectic lives. Some popular fitness classes are even introducing forms of meditation, such as ‘Meditation meets HIIT’, which encourages positive and mindful thinking throughout cardio workout sessions, said to develop a deeper connection between your mind, body and spirit. Phiit offers a range of classes which aim to bring mindfulness together with high intensity training for complete workout of mind and body.
